The Flaming Huckleberrys

The Flaming Huckleberrys

Mascot Illustration & Branding

"The family that plays together stays together." But for the Huckleberry family, who have been running fireworks displays in Northern Arkansas for more years than you can count on both hands and feet (whether or not you've blown off a few digits in the process...), it's the family that works year-round setting off some killer fireworks that gets a sweet brand like this one.

When they decided to refresh their original namesake mascot, they contacted me to update their look and add a more traditional wordmark to their branding options. With most of their fireworks displays happening at family events like baseball games, it was a no-brainer to explore a vintage Americana aesthetic. Picture a local sports team circa 1956, with pennant banners and mascots painted on the walls of the high school gym.

It's considered a badge of honor to take your first firework hit. So when the flaming projectiles start shooting off at several hundred miles per hour, it's not hard to see the logic behind the tongue-in-cheek family motto: "Sacrifice the ass, save the head."
Indeed.
