Links & Tips for Citizens

(and just useful things)

How Do I Boycott?

- Good: Be aware of what issues a business supports and monitor your spending.

- Better: Avoid shopping there, set spending limits, and spread awareness.

- Best: Contact upper management with feedback, shop only when necessary.

How do I call my representative?

You can use google or this lovely website:

https://5calls.org/

Writing or calling your representative:

- Address the intern respectfully.

- No threats, vulgarity, or vitriol.

- Stay focused on one issue.

- Keep it brief.

- Mention your name, address, and specific ask (if possible, name the bill or law).

Protesting Safely

- Protests are peaceful ways to show dissent through numbers and visibility.

- They help build community, increase visibility, and demonstrate support.

- They do not directly change policy, and involve no violence (property damage isn’t violence).

- Don’t protest alone.

- If attending:

- Dress comfortably and discreetly.

- Mask up for health and security.

- Bring a Faraday bag or leave your phone at home (tracking concerns).

- Know when to leave (nothing after dark).

- Know what message to deliver.

- Stay on message, avoid engaging with counter-protesters.

- Be respectful; do not take photos of others without permission.
